An extremely wet first qualifying session saw Barcelona winners Biagi and Bobbi, in the nr 23 BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari 550 Maranello, take provisional pole position for tomorrow's second round of the FIA GT Championship. The car set a time of 1:55.642 towards the end of the session. The nr 1 Larbre Competition Viper, which had been on provisional pole for much of the session, was second overall, with the nr 2 Saleen S7-R improving to third on its final lap.
The session, which was red-flagged twice, saw a lot of changes as times gradually improved. In N-GT, the Porsches continued to dominate, with the nr 50 Freisinger Motorsport and the nr 61EMKA Racing cars at the front of the class. The Ortelli/Lieb car set a lap of 2:00.252, with Sugden and Short seven tens of a second slower, on Tim Sugden's birthday. The nr 51 Freisinger Porsche was third, with the leading Ferrari 360 Modena, the nr 88 TMC car of Davies and Mullen, fourth.
